Bookkeeper/Payroll Clerk

The main purpose of the job is to ensure confidential, effective, efficient and timeous execution of tasks within deadline constraints. The position reports to the Finance Manager, whilst working closely with the Management team and staff alike.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Payroll
- Handling of payroll processes for employees, ensuring timely payments and adhering to tax regulations.
- Coordinate with HR to verify accuracy and completeness of employees’ information.
- Process manual checks for employees according to company policies.
- Manage employees records on database to maintain accuracy and updated information.
- Send reminders to managers to submit payroll information sheets as per scheduled cut-off dates to meet required deadlines.
- Update employees’ records which include personal and confidential information as required for payroll processing.
- Maintain employees’ confidence and protected payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
- Responding to employees’ queries with regards to deductions and other related issues.
- Provide reports to management for review and authorization.
- Reconciling pension and medical aid payments.
- Liaising with external parties which include but not limited to queries relating to benefits, etc.
- Payroll related submissions for SARS.
- Returns for the Department of Labour with regards to UIF and Workmen’s compensation.
- Statistical information for Surveys and reporting requirements.
Bookkeeping
- Loading of new suppliers to be transferred to procurement.
- Verification of new suppliers.
- Maintaining accurate records of all transactions.
- Provide support during audit by supplying requested documentation promptly and accurately.
- Ensure financial accuracy of day-to-day accounting processes.
- Prepare weekly and monthly payments.
- Load online payments.
- Balancing and reconciling of cashbooks, credit cards and petty cash.
- Support to the Financial Manager.
- Responsible for effective service delivery.

Qualifications
- Matric, Bookkeeping Degree or Diploma an added advantage.
- Understanding of scope of practice according to job description.
- Understanding of legislation and ethical requirements and how these impacts on service delivery.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem solving skills, critical thinking and ability to multi-task.
- Compassionate.
- Teamwork skills.
- Computer literacy SharePoint, Microsoft 365 and related applications; SARS e-filing and easy-file experience and Sage online payroll and Accounting would be an advantage.
Required Experience
- 5 to 10 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Computer literacy.
- Own transport.

- Driver’s License.

- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in English and Afrikaans. Proficiency in isiXhosa an advantage.
