Enrolled Nurse

SJIPC is looking to recruit an EN (Enrolled Nurse) responsible for providing optimal, quality nursing care to our children under the direct and or indirect supervision of the registered nurse.
The EN will perform her nursing duties in accordance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), Department of health (DOH) and the National Core Standards.
Such duties include the provision of effective, efficient, holistic nursing care which includes promotive, preventative, curative, rehabilitative, palliative and end of life care.
Job Responsibilities
- Practice within the regulations of SANC by abiding to the following Acts and policies:
- The Nursing Act
- The Health Care Act
- The Mental Health Act
- The Child Health care Act
- Criminal procedures Act
- Medicines and related substances control Act
- Any and all Acts governing the Nursing Profession
- Practice within the policies set by SJIPC.
- Practice patient care according to his / her Scope of practice and assumes total responsibility for nursing actions and professional conduct.
- Projects a positive professional image.
- Contributes to the holistic care of patient’s by seeing to their physical care needs e.g. monitoring vital signs, maintenance of oxygen supply to patients, maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance, wound care, skin care maintenance of nutrition including tube feeding and naso – gastric tube feeding.
- Contribute to the holistic care of patient’s by seeing to their emotional, spiritual, social, and developmental care needs.
- Carry out end of life care.
- Preparation for and assisting the doctor with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures pertaining to the patient, within your scope of practice.
- Compiling, implementing and evaluating patient care plans according to the patients’ needs.
- Provision for effective patient advocacy for the fulfilment of patients care needs.
- Escorting patients to hospital if required and communicating feedback to the team.
- Be compliant with the principles of good recordkeeping
- Helps to control patient and hospital costs through the correct, safe, economical use of supplies and equipment.
- Handling equipment, stock, consumables and medication safely and competently.
- Ensure all equipment is in working order, is stored in a safe place and that repair requisitions are completed promptly for faulty equipment.
- Maintain effective communication with patients regarding their care.
- Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives, visitors and stakeholders.
- Promote and maintain good working and interpersonal relationships with management, colleagues and doctors.
- Maintains a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico – legal hazards.
- Assume responsibility for own personal and professional development, by attending in-service training, symposia, group discussions, meetings etc.
- Participate in the induction, on the job training and the development of staff.
- Participate in ad hoc education and in service training of subordinates.
- Provide health education to patients, their families and the community.
- Organise work activities systematically.
- Supervision and delegation of duties to subordinates within their scope of practice and knowledge.
- Ensure that all staff adhere to the relevant operational protocols and procedures.
- Manage staff performance on a day to day basis and report and liaise with the registered nurse.
- Be conversant with the disaster care plan of the organisation.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Enrolled nursing Qualification
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)
- BLS qualification an advantage
- Experience as an Enrolled nurse within an organisation.
- Experience in nursing children / adolescents an advantage.
- Demonstrate competence when practicing clinical procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the principles of infection control and prevention.
- Problem solving, analysis and judgement.
