Enrolled Nursing Assistant

St Joseph’s Intermediate Paediatric Care (SJIPC) is looking to recruit three (3) Enrolled Nursing Assistants (ENA’s) to provide optimal, quality nursing care in our children’s wards under the direct supervision of an enrolled nurse.
The Enrolled Nurse Assistant will be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function under the direct and/or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse.
The ENA will perform nursing duties in accordance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), Department of Health (DOH), and National Core Standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Practice within the regulations of SANC and adhere to the policies, operational protocols and procedures of SJIPC.
- Practice patient care according to his/her Scope of practice and assume total responsibility for his/her nursing actions and professional conduct.
- Project a positive professional image.
- Contribute to the holistic care of patient’s by seeing to their physical care needs e.g. monitoring vital signs, maintenance of oxygen supply to patients, maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance, wound care, skin care maintenance of nutrition by assisting with patient feeds and administering Naso gastric tube and peg feeds etc,
- Contribute to the holistic care of patients by seeing to their emotional, spiritual, social, and developmental care needs.
- Ensure proper evidence-based nursing care.
- Adhere to the principles of infection control and prevention
- To help control patient and hospital costs through the correct, safe and economical use of supplies and equipment.
- Escort patients to hospital if required and communicate feedback to the team.
- Effective communication with patients regarding their care.
- Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives, visitors and stakeholders.
- Promote and maintain good working and interpersonal relationships with management, colleagues and doctors.
- Communicate with colleagues and the MDT team regarding any change in health status of a patient.
- Practice compliance with the principles of good recordkeeping
- Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards.
- Assume responsibility for own personal and professional development by attending in-service training, group discussions, meetings etc.
- Be conversant with the disaster care plan of the organisation.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification.
- Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary qualification.
- Current registration with South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- BLS qualification advantageous.
- Experience as an Enrolled nursing assistant within an organisation.
- Experience in nursing children / adolescents an advantage.
- Demonstrate competence and knowledge when practicing clinical procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the principles of infection control and prevention.
- Problem-solving, analysis and judgement.
- Resilience.
- Excellent verbal & written communication and presentation.
- Building relationships.
- Customer responsiveness. Organisational awareness.
- Professional flexibility in working hours while supporting daily business hours.

- Proficiency in English and Afrikaans. Proficiency in Xhosa an added advantage.

- Ability to speak; read and write English.
- Computer competency.
- Good administration, report writing.
