Support the St Joseph’s “Happy Nappy Drive” on International Charity Day

Give nappies, feel happy! In celebration of International Charity Day on Friday, 6 September 2024, St Joseph’s Intermediate Paediatric Care invites you to participate in their “Happy Nappy Drive,” embodying the spirit of ubuntu – togetherness and humanity.

St Joseph’s is the only non-profit transitional care facility in the Western Cape providing around the clock care to children with chronic and life-limiting conditions. With over 5,000 nappies used weekly, your support is vital in meeting this essential need.

Your act of kindness will help many children like Lukhanyiso whose journey to independence is just one of many children like him at St Joseph’s. Lukhanyiso Ndele suffered a hypoxic brain injury after choking on a pen lid, losing almost all motor functions and vision. When he arrived at St Joseph’s, he couldn’t sit, hold objects, or see clearly. Through weekly occupational therapy, Lukhanyiso gradually regained some vision and improved his ability to sit and participate in activities. His progress is a testament to the life-changing care provided at St Joseph’s.

Every pack of nappies donated helps St Joseph’s staff provide the highest quality care for young patients, from newborns to 17-year-olds. When a child is admitted for rehabilitative and restorative care after a traumatic, life-changing incident, the simple dignity of having clean, fresh nappies makes a significant difference. We have a particular need for adult nappies, especially in medium and large sizes, for our older children. Your contribution of these essential items is deeply appreciated.

You can help by purchasing nappies from a reputable online platform for delivery to St Joseph’s at 40 Pallotti Rd, Montana or drop off your donations at this address. Alternatively, why not run your own Happy Nappy Drive by mobilising your community, friends, or colleagues to collect nappies. You can also choose to donate online using the options available on the left.

“As a non-profit organisation, maintaining a steady supply of nappies is a daunting task, but with your help, we can make a difference,” says Christelle Cornelius, Chief Executive Officer at St Joseph’s.

“We encourage you to consider this impactful way of giving.  Your contribution, big or small, helps St Joseph’s provide the essentials that the children need. Let’s come together on International Charity Day and ensure that every child at St Joseph’s feels the love and care they deserve,” says Christelle Cornelius.

Feel-good giving stories like a donor who for his 80th birthday celebration, guests brought nappies instead of gifts are truly inspirational.

Please remember the children at St Joseph’s this International Charity Day.  Give nappies, feel happy.
